What We've Done!

Since it's inception the NWA Positive Links Buddy Program members and friends have help each other with a wide variety of support, services and activities.  Since October of 2006 the group has grown to over 40 members of both HIV negative and HIV positive members who willing to offer their time and talent to the program and it's members in need.  These are just a few examples of services and support that have been and continue to be offered those living with HIV:

bullet

Provided monthly meetings and social activities to promote support and friendship.

bullet

Offered tickets to local attractions with donated admission tickets.

bullet

Mowed yards and helped with yard work for several members who are unable to themselves.

bullet

Helped do housework such as vacuuming, washing laundry and dishes, and clean out closets and rooms.

bullet

Transported members to doctors, lab appointments, meetings and social activities.

bullet

Provided food items from our pantry and purchased Angel Food units to help make it to the end of the month.

bullet

Gathered clothing, furniture and household items to get new members moving into the area on their feet.

bullet

Helped pay for medications, utilities and basic services when needed on an emergency basis.

bullet

Gave free haircuts and massages from Tymythy's Salon to all in the group who needed them.

bullet

Donated or fixed, repaired and advised help on member's computers at no charge.

bullet

Referred members to other programs and resources in the area who offer HIV/AIDS services.

bullet

Published a monthly newsletter with member submitted articles and information.

bullet

Provided daily contact between ourselves with email, phone calls instant messaging and personal visits.

bullet

Involved members in NWA GLBT Community Center events and meetings.

bullet

Designated a team of members to help administer the program developed governing documents.

bullet

Provided an all inclusive, non threatening environment so all members and friends felt comfortable.

bullet

Raised over $500 dollars in donations from the NW Arkansas community to help keep the program active.

bullet

Inspired an organization in Warren, Ohio to start a Buddy Program fashioned after our own. Check it out!

All services were provided by non-paid member and friend volunteers who unselfishly offer their time, funds and energy to keep the NWA Positive Links Buddy Program thriving.  This peer to  peer support group is the only one in our area of it's kind and is providing a much needed service to our community.  Membership is completely open to all who wish to be involved.  If you are interested in joining the NWA Positive Links Buddy Program, just fill out one of the applications below and email, mail or drop off in person to the Program Director, Chris Hannon.
